As the weather gets colder, we want to remind members of the community that while there may be ice on the rivers and ponds, it has not been cold enough for long enough, for the ice to be safe to walk or play on. Thin ice is extremely dangerous and can break without warning. If you see a pet or person trapped on the ice or fallen through, please do not attempt to rescue them yourself. Call the fire department immediately! We are trained and equipped to safely handle ice rescues, ensuring that you, your loved ones, and your furry friends remain safe.
Your safety is our priority, so please allow us to handle ice rescue operations. Stay safe and enjoy the winter weather responsibly.
(If you are interested in seeing pictures from our ice rescue drill last year, you can some pictures and a summary here.)
Once again, in case of emergency, do not attempt a rescue in ice or icy waters. Instead dial 9-1-1 and the fire department will be dispatched to assist.
